THE HONEY

En la producción tradicional amparada por esta Denominación de Origen Villuercas-Ibores, se defienden dos clases de miel, según los parajes donde se recolecta:

The honey with the Label of Regulated Quality (D. O.) Miel Villuercas-Ibores is a food product obtained by the honey producing bees, starting with the nectar of the flowers, and from the living parts of the plants.

The bees absorb, transform and combine it with the bees own juices. They store it and leave it to mature in the honeycombs.

The honey comes from beehives controlled in the Exploitation Register of the Labels of Regulated Quality (D.O.), and cannot be found outside of the established geographic zone.

Beneficial properties of the honey with the Labels of Regulated Quality (D.O. Villuercas-Ibores):

• Problems with hypertension and hypotension, heart problems, arthritis, rheumatism, constipation, dyspepsia, acidity and insomnia.
• For bronchial and lung decongestion, and as a throat soother.
• As a mouth rinse.
• Cosmetic use for its smoothing properties and anti-inflammatory.
• For the external use of hemorrhoid inflammation.
• Being an alkaline food product, it does not usually cause problems in persons with digestive dysfunctions, and helps with the healing of stomach and duodenum ulcers.
• It acts as an effective disinfectant and healer of wounds.

The characteristic organic properties that differentiate this type of honey made from the nectar of plants, are its exceptional aroma and pleasant taste, likewise, the honey from wild flowers and honey from the forest (Chestnut - Castanea Sativa; Common Oak – Quercus Robur; Holly Oak – Quercus Ilex; Heather – Erica Cinerea).

In general, these are honeys of an excellent quality with a darker red colour to black with green tints and very aromatic with a slight bitter taste.

Due to the physiochemical properties found in this pure honey which tends to crystallize, this being an unmistakable sign of a natural process in production and offers an unquestionable guarantee to the consumer.
